Symbolic ceremony with a small group of guests at a micro wedding in Italy

Micro Wedding, Elopement or Intimate Wedding?

The three words are often mixed up. The difference is mainly the number of people, and it changes the venue, the budget and the planning.

FormatGuestsWhat it looks likeKiss Me Italy prices
ElopementThe two of you, sometimes with a few witnessesShort ceremony, photos, often a dinner for twoFrom €1,900 (for example the Florence Rooftop Elopement)
Micro weddingAbout 8 to 40Ceremony, toast and a meal or party in an exclusive setting€13,000 to €45,000
Intimate or small weddingAbout 40 to 60A full wedding day on a smaller scale, often over a weekendFrom €19,000 for 50 guests

A micro wedding keeps the closeness of an elopement but adds the people who matter most: parents, siblings, best friends. It also needs more structure: a meal, transfers and somewhere for guests to stay.

If you are only two, see our elopement packages in Italy. For planning advice on a group of 30 to 60, read our intimate wedding in Italy guide.

Where to Have Your Micro Wedding

Our micro wedding packages are in three areas. Each gives a different weekend, and each has its own travel logic for guests.

Lake Como

Villa Pizzo in Cernobbio is a 16th-century estate with gardens on the water: the ceremony takes place by the lake, followed by a celebration toast. Villa Noseda is a private villa used entirely for your group, with its own dock and a vintage Riva boat for the couple. Both work well for 10 to 20 guests.

Lake Garda

Lake Garda has the widest choice. Hotel Cristal Sirmione offers a rooftop and sky bar over the lake for up to 40 guests, and Villa Cortine Palace has the Terrazza Koseritz, with views on three sides. Isola del Garda, the only island on the lake, is reached by boat, and Villa Fiordaliso includes a night in five rooms for ten guests. Our Lake Garda wedding venues page lists every Garda package.

Tuscany

In the countryside, a micro wedding often becomes a stay. On the Castello di Bibbione estate, 8 to 12 guests stay at Villa il Poggio, with its private pool, and the symbolic ceremony takes place at the castle. Relais Val d’Orcia offers three nights of exclusive use with rooms for 18. See our Tuscany wedding venues guide for the region.

For a city setting, our Venice and Florence elopement packages can host a few witnesses; see eloping in Venice for the Venice options.

Ceremony: Symbolic or Legal

A ceremony in a villa garden, on a terrace or on an island is usually symbolic. It has no legal value in Italy, so there is no Italian paperwork and you can choose the time and place freely. You sign the legal marriage at home, before or after the trip.

A civil ceremony is legally valid in Italy and at home. It is performed by the comune where you marry, in the town hall or in a location the comune has approved, and it needs documents that depend on your nationality. Read our guides to getting married in Italy as a foreigner and marrying in Italy as a US citizen, or compare the options in wedding ceremony types in Italy.

What a Micro Wedding Costs in Italy

With a small group, the package is most of the budget. What remains is travel and the choices you add. These are the ranges already published on Kiss Me Italy for services outside a package:

ExtraPublished range
Celebrant for a symbolic ceremony€800 to €2,500
Photographer, elopement or small ceremony (2-4 hours)€2,500 to €6,000
Second photographer€1,500 to €4,000
String quartet for the ceremony€2,000 to €3,500
Musicians for the ceremony€800 to €1,500
Private boat on the lakes, per hour€400 to €1,200
Car with driver, per transfer€80 to €150
Planning consultation with Kiss Me Italy€720

A micro wedding costs less in total than a large wedding, but more per guest, because exclusive venues and private service are shared by fewer people. For the full comparison by guest count, read how much a wedding in Italy costs.

How to Plan a Micro Wedding

  • Set the guest list first. 10, 20 or 40 people changes which venues you can book, and the price levels in each package.
  • Choose the area and the venue. A lake terrace for an evening, an island for a few hours, or a Tuscan villa for a whole weekend.
  • Decide the ceremony. Symbolic at the venue, or civil with the comune, which needs documents prepared about three months ahead.
  • Check the date. Use the date check on the product page; some venues are priced by weekday or weekend, or by low and high season.
  • Plan the guests’ stay. Rooms, transfers from the airport and a welcome dinner or farewell brunch if the group stays longer.

Book six to twelve months ahead for May, June and September, when weekend dates go first. When you are ready, contact Kiss Me Italy with your date, area and guest count.

When to Plan the Date

May, June and September give long evenings and mild weather for outdoor ceremonies on the lakes and in Tuscany. July and August are hotter, so ceremonies move to the late afternoon. A weekday date often costs less: at Villa Cortine Palace, the evening on the Terrazza Koseritz costs €27,000 Monday to Thursday and €29,000 Friday to Sunday for 20 guests.

Villa Noseda has a low-season and a high-season price, and Villa Fiordaliso hosts weddings from Sunday to Friday. Ask for two or three possible dates: with a small group, moving the day by one or two days is easy and can open better options.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a micro wedding in Italy cost?

Our micro wedding packages cost from €13,000 for 10 guests at Villa Pizzo on Lake Como to €45,000 for three nights at Relais Val d’Orcia in Tuscany with rooms for 18. Lake Garda packages for 20 to 40 guests cost €19,000 to €33,000. Travel, hotel nights and extras such as music are added on top.

How many guests is a micro wedding?

A micro wedding usually means up to about 30 guests, sometimes 40: close family and best friends. Our packages are built for groups of 8, 10, 12, 18, 20, 30 or 40 people. Two people alone is an elopement; from about 40 to 60 guests it becomes an intimate or small wedding.

How do you plan a micro wedding in Italy?

Fix the guest list, choose the area and a package, then decide between a symbolic ceremony and a civil one at the comune. Check the date online, book the guests’ rooms and transfers, and order the legal documents about three months before if you marry civilly.

What is the difference between a micro wedding and an elopement?

An elopement is for the two of you, sometimes with one or two witnesses, and our elopement packages start at €1,900. A micro wedding adds your closest people, up to about 30 or 40, so it needs a meal, a larger setting and often rooms. Our micro wedding packages start at €13,000.
