Castle Wedding Venues by Region
The castles in our catalogue sit in seven areas of Italy. Each region gives a different setting, a different travel plan for guests and a different kind of day.
Tuscany: Vicarello, Vicchiomaggio and Bibbione
Tuscany has three castles, and they work in very different ways. Castello di Vicarello stands on a hilltop in the Maremma and dates from the 12th century. For three nights the whole castle is yours: 30 guests sleep in its ten suites and the villa, and up to 60 join the wedding day.
Castello Vicchiomaggio is a medieval hamlet on the hills of Greve in Chianti, among the vineyards of Chianti Classico. You can book the castle with its 15 suites for 36 guests, or the whole borgo with four residences and a panoramic pool for 60 guests. The ceremony can be symbolic, civil or religious.
Castello di Bibbione is a hilltop castle in the Tuscan countryside, rented exclusively for a symbolic ceremony with a celebrant, the reception and up to three nights of stay. Read our guide to a Tuscany wedding castle for more on the region, or compare all wedding venues in Tuscany.
Umbria: Castello di Petrata and Castello di San Biagio
Umbria offers the lowest castle prices in the catalogue. Castello di Petrata is booked for three days: a welcome party, a full wedding day with lunch and open bar, and a final breakfast, with two nights for up to 60 guests.
Castello di San Biagio is a countryside castle with 16 rooms. A day event for 36 guests costs €42,000, and options with one or two nights of stay go up to 90 guests. The wedding day ends with a Champagne Tower.
Liguria: Castello Brown in Portofino and Castello Canevaro in Zoagli
Castello Brown stands above the harbour of Portofino. The symbolic ceremony takes place on its panoramic terrace, reserved for you, and the reception moves down to an exclusive restaurant on the Piazzetta.
Castello Canevaro rises from the cliffs of Zoagli, between Portofino and the Cinque Terre. The castle is yours for the day, and 16 guests stay overnight in its sea-view rooms. See our list of Portofino wedding venues for other options on this coast.

The lakes: Castello di Vezio and Castello Dal Pozzo
Castello di Vezio is a medieval castle above Varenna on Lake Como. The wedding package uses the Agriturismo Castello di Vezio in the olive groves below the walls, with two nights for 60 guests, a welcome party and a dinner over the lake.
Castello Dal Pozzo stands on the shore of Lake Maggiore, facing the Borromean Islands. The package gives you exclusive use of the castle courtyard for the reception, aperitivo, lunch and open bar, for 50 or 100 guests.
Rome and the Dolomites: Tor Crescenza and Castel Badia
Castello Tor Crescenza is a medieval castle with towers and battlements, set in a centuries-old park a few minutes from the centre of Rome. It suits couples who want a castle and a city weekend at once. Weekday dates cost less than weekends.
Castel Badia is a historic castle in the Dolomites, booked in exclusive use for three nights with full board for 50 guests. It is the only mountain castle in the catalogue. Our Dolomites wedding guide covers the region in more detail.
Renting a Castle in Italy Exclusively
Every castle wedding package above is built on exclusive use. No other event shares the castle with you during the hours or nights included. What changes from one castle to the next is how much of the property you get and for how long.
- Day use. The castle is yours for the ceremony and the reception, and guests sleep in nearby hotels. Castello Brown, Castello Tor Crescenza and Castello Dal Pozzo work this way.
- Day use with some rooms. Part of the group sleeps in the castle. At Castello Canevaro 16 guests stay overnight; at Castello di San Biagio 16 rooms are available.
- Multi-day exclusive use. The whole group lives in the castle for two or three nights, with a welcome party and a farewell breakfast or brunch. This is the format at Vicarello, Vicchiomaggio, Vezio, Petrata and Castel Badia.
Multi-day packages cost more, but they include rooms for your guests, so compare them with a day package plus hotel nights. Prices also change with the season and, at some castles, with the day of the week.
Ceremony Options: Symbolic, Civil or in a Church
Most castle packages include a symbolic ceremony with a celebrant. It has no legal value in Italy, so you sign the legal paperwork at home before or after the trip. In exchange, the ceremony can take place on a terrace, in a courtyard or in a garden, at any time of day.
A civil ceremony that is legally valid needs a registrar from the local town hall and a location the town hall accepts. Not every castle qualifies, so we check it for each venue and date. Our guide to getting married in Italy as a foreigner explains the documents.
For a Catholic wedding, the ceremony takes place in a church and the reception follows at the castle. Castello Vicchiomaggio has a small church inside its hamlet. Read our page on a Catholic wedding in Italy for the parish requirements.

Small Castle Venues and Castle Elopements
A castle does not have to mean a large wedding. These packages are designed for two people, or for a small group, and each one has a published price.
| Package | Castle | Guests | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intimate Wedding — Tuscan Countryside (Castello di Bibbione, Villa il Poggio) | Castello di Bibbione, Tuscany (stay at Villa il Poggio) | 8 or 12 | €28,000 or €30,000 |
| The Perfect Sunset Garda | Castello Scaligero, Malcesine (Lake Garda) | the couple | €6,900 |
| Lost In Paradise Portofino | Boat ceremony, then photos at Castello Brown, Portofino | the couple | €3,700 |
| Romantic Marriage at the Alpine Castle — Castel Badia, Dolomites | Castel Badia, Dolomites | the couple | €3,300 |
| The Castle Intimate Ceremony — Lake Maggiore (Elopement) | Castello Dal Pozzo, Lake Maggiore | the couple | €3,200 |
| The Castle Love Ceremony | Castello di Vezio, Lake Como | the couple | €2,100 (2 hours), €2,300 (3 hours) |
At Malcesine the ceremony takes place on the Terrazza Rivellino of the Castello Scaligero, built by the Scaligeri of Verona in the 14th century, and ends with a sunset cruise on Lake Garda. Our Malcesine castle wedding guide describes the setting. At Castel Badia and Castello Dal Pozzo the elopement includes dinner and a night in the castle.
For more small formats, see our micro wedding in Italy page and all our elopement packages in Italy. If the question comes before the wedding, a castle proposal in Italy is also possible at several of these castles.
When to Book a Castle Wedding in Italy
Season changes the price at many castles. Castel Badia goes from €159,000 in low season to €249,000 in high season, and Castello di Vezio from €84,000 to €89,000. Castello Tor Crescenza and Castello di Petrata also cost less on weekdays than at weekends.
Each castle hosts one wedding at a time, so popular weekends go first. Start with the date: once the castle confirms it, the rest of the planning follows. In July and August, an evening ceremony and a dinner reception keep guests out of the strongest heat, especially in Tuscany, Umbria and Rome.
Mountain and lake castles have their own high season. Check the season dates on the product pages of Castel Badia, Castello di Vezio and Castello Dal Pozzo before you fix the date.

How Booking Works
- Choose the castle and the option. Each product page shows the guest tiers, seasons and what is included, with no hidden extras.
- Check the date. Use the “Check my date” button on the product page, or write to us with your date and guest count.
- Plan the details. A dedicated Kiss Me Italy contact coordinates the venue, the ceremony, the suppliers and your guests.
- Add extras if you need them. Live music and guest transport can be added to any package and are quoted separately.
If you are still comparing castles with villas and palazzi, our page on Italy wedding venues covers every venue type. When you are ready, contact Kiss Me Italy with your date, region and number of guests. Our luxury weddings in Italy page shows the full service.
