Anyone can book a gondola at one of the official stations, called stazi. The difference is what happens around the ride.

Official fares come from the Comune di Venezia gondola service page, approved by town council resolution no. 89 of 20 April 2023. Day rates apply from 9am to 7pm, night rates from 7pm to 4am.
Other durations are priced in proportion to time, and the ride can vary by a few minutes because of traffic, tide and weather.
How the Gondola Proposal in Venice Works
Before the Day
- You choose the package and the date, and tell us what your partner expects (or does not expect).
- We plan the route and scout the most romantic point along it for the proposal.
- We agree on the time, based on the light and on how to bring your partner to the boarding point without raising suspicion.
- You keep the ring; we coordinate the gondolier, the singer and the photographer.
On the Water
- You board the private gondola together, as if for a normal ride.
- The gondolier takes you through the canals toward the chosen spot.
- The serenade begins and you propose; the photographer captures the moment from nearby.
- After the “yes”: the Champagne toast, the bouquet and a short couple photo session.
With the Grand Canal package, the evening continues with dinner in a typical restaurant in the center of Venice.
Route: Quiet Canals or the Grand Canal
There are two kinds of route, and the right one depends on how public you want the moment to be.
- Smaller canals: quieter water between palaces and under small bridges. Best for a private moment and a clear photo.
- The Grand Canal: the most famous views of Venice, with palaces on both sides, but more boat traffic. It is the setting of the Serenade & Dinner package.

Best Time: Sunset and Season
The soft light of the last hour before sunset is the most requested. We calculated sunset times in Venice for the 15th of each month in 2026.

From April to September, a sunset ride usually falls after 7pm, when the official night fare applies. In late autumn and winter the sun sets before 5pm, so a sunset proposal fits easily into the afternoon.
Some tours sell seats on a shared gondola. They are cheaper, but you cannot choose the route, the timing or who sits next to you.
For a proposal, the gondola should be private. All the packages on this page use a private gondola, so the boat carries only the two of you, the gondolier and, when the package includes them, the singer and the photographer.
Rain and High Water Plan
Venice weather changes quickly, and the Comune notes that tide, traffic and weather can change the length of a ride. We watch the forecast in the days before the proposal.
- If conditions compromise the experience, Secrets of the Canal can be rescheduled at no extra charge, as stated on the product page.
- Covered boats and alternative boarding points are part of the contingency plan for gondola arrivals.
- Light rain can even add atmosphere; if the weather is poor, we move the time or the day with you.
